Ten years ago, APIs were booming as companies sought to leverage the technology trend to share their digital assets both internally and externally. The rapid growth of APIs created a need for solutions that could securely expose these enterprise systems to partners, customers, and internal teams. In response, Microsoft introduced Azure API Management, a PaaS solution designed to secure, monitor, and scale APIs efficiently.

Today, Azure API Management is now an essential tool for data-driven businesses in sectors like logistics, manufacturing, retail, and the public sector. From optimizing supply chains and modernizing legacy systems to enabling multi-channel experiences and ensuring secure service delivery, APIM undeniably drives innovation and growth. One after another, customers have seen large improvements in system reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction, thanks to the personalized solutions we’ve developed using APIM. 

To celebrate this milestone, we teamed up with the Microsoft API Management Product Group to take a journey down memory lane. We explored where API Management started, its evolution over the past decade, and how it has transformed the way we build and manage APIs.
